A testing laboratory is one in which the unique characteristics of an item of interest, are assessed by the use of equipment that helps facilitate the process. Specific processes and confirmations must be performed on the equipment before usage to ensure appropriate and efficient operation. Validation of equipment is one such confirmation.

Equipment validation, also known as Performance Qualification (PQ), is the procedure through which laboratory equipment is examined for operational flaws and confirmed to have been installed correctly. In order to assure the accuracy and consistency of data, reduce future damage, and prevent accidents in the lab, the equipment is checked for proper operation.

Why it is important:

  • Ensures reliability of the equipment in use
  • Improves procedures and product quality
  • Maintains results accuracy
  • Ensures timely release of results
