              WHAT IS AFLATOXIN?

Aflatoxins are a family of toxins produced by certain fungi that are found on agricultural crops such as maize (corn), peanuts and tree nuts. The main fungi that produce aflatoxins are Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus, which are abundant in warm and humid regions of the world.crops can be contaminated at the field and post harvest rot can happen in storage or even on transit.

In addition to causing preharvest and post harvest infections,many strains produce significant quantities of toxic compound which when consumed is harmful to mammals.Aspergillus flavus is also an opportunistic human and animal pathogen causing Aspergillosis in immunoco,promised individuals.
